Lucy was invited to present as a case study of employee empowerment, demonstrating how the Virtual Fracture Clinic, a grass roots service transformation, impacts patients and staff while having a significant financial impact. The conference is for clinicians in any area who are interested in setting up virtual clinics.

Further national recognition for our Virtual Fracture Clinic Huge congratulations to Lucy Cassidy and the Virtual Fracture Clinic team, who were the overall winners of this year's Advamcing Healthcare Awards for Allied Health Professionals and Healthcare Scientists for their work to "revolutionise the way people can be involved in their treatment and rehabilitation after a fracture". The clinic involves Specialist Physiotherapists assessing x-rays online with an Orthopaedic Consultant to make a decision on the next steps of care. Patients recieve instructions over the phone about how to care for their injury and are provided with access to self management videos. The clinic has meant patients who were treated in A&E with a broken bone no longer have to come to hospital for face-to-face assessment. As well as the benefits to patient care, the clinic has also saved the Trust almost £600,000 and the judges said it is: 'A superb example of working together which will be a huge benefit for the NHS and empower patients to plan an active part in their own recovery.' |
